The former agent of KGB, the known deserter Yury Nosenko, died in the south of the USA last Saturday at the age of 81 year, the Washington Post newspaper reports on Wednesday with reference to representatives of intelligence services.
Nosenko living in the USA under an assumed name, died as a result "a long illness". Information on his death appeared only on Wednesday. About circumstances of death of Nosenko and character of its illness it isn't reported.
Yury Ivanovich Nosenko was born on October 30, 1927 in the city of Nikolaev (Ukraine). In 1950 the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the USSR ended MGIMO, in 1953 began work in bodies of KGB. In 1959-62 Nosenko personally carried out interrogation of the alleged murderer president Kennedy Li Harvey Oswald during his stay in the USSR.
The major Nosenko disappeared in February, 1964, being on official journey in Switzerland. According to statements of the American authorities, in the USA it was granted a political asylum.
In July, 1964 Yury Nosenko was in absentia sentenced by Military board of the Supreme Court of the USSR for change to the Homeland, actually remaining the Soviet citizen.
Nosenko's disappearance in Switzerland raised many doubts about, whether really he came over to the side of the American investigation. The American investigation also doubted Nosenko's transition to service of the USA. However after three years of interrogations he became the official consultant of CIA.
In 2007 senior representatives of CIA visited Nosenko and transferred it a ceremonial flag and the letter from the head of CIA Michael Hayden in whom the gratitude for his faithful service of the USA was expressed.
