For release of the seaman and the vessels Faina it wasn't paid any hryvnia from the state budget. All financing of operation including repayment to pirates, it is carried out for personal means of individuals. It was declared today by the head of the Secretariat of the president of Ukraine Victor Baloga, reports a press - service of the head of state.
"In the budget there is no article "money for release of hostages" therefore it was necessary to accumulate the necessary sum from non-budgetary sources. As the head of the Secretariat of the president and the coordinator of special operation I officially asked for the help, first of all, those domestic businessmen who is well-known the charitable projects. As a result the lion's share of expenses - and it is some million dollars - on release of the Ukrainian seaman the businessman and the patron Victor Pinchuk financed. It were its personal means which it as the founder of charity foundation decided to provide to release Faina crew", - V. Baloga told.
He emphasized that the President Victor Yushchenko personally thanked V. Pinchuk for understanding, a civic stand and the significant contribution to operation on vessel release.
The head of the secretariat reported also that V. Yushchenko the decree noted the state awards of four senior officers of Service of foreign intelligence of Ukraine who took direct part in special operation on release from piracy captivity of crew of a vessel.
The Faina bulk carrier was captured by pirates on September 25, 2008 at coast of Somalia. At the time of capture on a vessel there were 17 citizens of Ukraine, three Russians and one citizen of Latvia. The captain of a vessel - the citizen of Russia Vladimir Kolobkov - died of heart attack. Pirates received repayment on February 5 and left a vessel. According to the official version, pirates paid 3,2 million dale.
The crew of Faina was delivered to Kiev on February 13.
