The Nikolaev owners of elevators raise the prices of grain

Domestic landowners appeared in the face of a traditional problem: if the crop is bad, they earn not enough money and if it is good, lose it on fields. The unprecedented grain yield in Ukraine can and remain open-air. Already now many farms aren't able to attach collected on the elevators which capacities don't cope with loading. Those to whom means allow, hastily were engaged in purchase or construction of own storages. Others are compelled to bargain grain to traders away directly from a field.

The record harvest which is expected this year (about 45 million tons), threatens to bring to landowners not less problems, than deficiency of grain in last season. Though the harvest harvest season yet didn't end, farms already started complaining about shortage of the areas for storage collected. Especially intense situation developed on the elevators located on crossing of transport streams: in ports and on large railway junctions. According to the analyst of the AAA company Maria Kolesnik, practically all warehouses there are already chartered. On Nikolaev "Prometheus" reported that grain for the present accept, however flow of clients is so great that soon its capacities will be completely loaded. Being in a great demand, owners of elevators quickly reconsidered the price policy, having raised quotations almost twice. Storage of ton of wheat now costs an average to 20 UAH a month, in the same sum its drying, 5 UAH will manage. storekeepers take for purification of grain, 20-25 UAH/t - for its shipment. Thus, monthly warehouse expenses of farmers will make about 50 UAH/t (a little more than 20 UAH last year). The sum, at first sight, small, but considering that recently farms don't hurry to sell grain at once after harvesting, rise in price of services of elevators can add about $ Ô 100 to the goods price.

According to - жи Kolesnik, the agiotage reason in the market became an imbalance between supply and demand. Besides expected 45 million tons of grain of a new crop where - that it is necessary to store about 7 million tons of the transitional stocks which in due time haven't been taken out from the country from - for export restrictions. Domestic elevators are ready to accept in total only 30 million tons. Even provided that export this year will be the most active, in a short time the problem of deficiency of the warehouse areas all the same will hardly be resolved from - for the low capacity of ports (for example, Odessa can process 1,2 million tons of grain a month) that will allow owners of elevators to raise quotations further. However, representatives of "Prometheus" say that the new prices exposed for the objective reasons as rise in price of energy carriers significantly increased the cost of processing of grain. Besides, control became tougher from grain inspection which threatens to select the certificate for the slightest violation of technology of storage.
According to Maria Kolesnik, for the large companies the problem of warehouses hardly will be unsoluble. Many of them have own elevators, others are ready to get them quickly. Last week the port knew of purchase of the transshipment Transbalk terminal by "Kernel" in Ilyichevsk for $100 million. It is one of the terminals largest in the country which capacity makes about 4,5 million tons a year, and the areas for grain storage - 120 thousand tons. And it only beginning of repartition of the market of grain warehouse infrastructure. The director of the company "Missile defense Agro" Nikolay Vernitsky believes that potential investors will become interested in the old, partially thrown elevators located in less attractive places, but nevertheless quite suitable for crop storage. Besides, the expert expects surge in demand for construction small (3,5-5 thousand tons) elevators separate farms. "Such approach practices in many developed countries: farmers simply put on fields to "bank" in which it is possible to store collected", - he explains.

By estimates of the director of the Nikolaev company "Contact Service Project-m" (is engaged in a construction of elevators) Denis Kupriyevich, the small warehouse will cost to economy $3 million, but it is possible to pay back these expenses within two years.He also speaks about high interest of farmers opportunity to catch own storage, but notes that this year projects bring the few to practical realization - landowners simply don't have current assets, and banks significantly toughened credit conditions. At the same time large investors have no similar problems therefore recently the company built three large warehouse (50-100 thousand tons) and only one small.

Maria Kolesnik predicts that problems with storage won't allow peasants to realize collected grain at the high prices. After all now in many regions there are rains, so, on current it long won't lie. Those who won't manage to find a warehouse with more - less acceptable conditions, will be compelled to realize goods directly from a field at below cost prices. According to the expert, traders already travel about on regions, buying up wheat on 800 UAH/t whereas its market price makes today not less than 1,2 thousand/t. The same who will manage to keep most long grain in the zasekakh, can count on good profit. After all even the present world price for wheat which is considered minimum at the time of harvesting, makes 320-350$/t (in 2007-260$/t). Considering a drought in Australia and possible problems with a crop in the USA, in a year this figure can grow by 100$/t.
