The chairman of the Nikolaev regional UNP considers that Russia owes Ukraine $900 million partially to compensate the passivity concerning elimination of consequences of Chernobyl accident

"for removal from operation of Chernobyl nuclear power plant which Russia promised to provide $17 million to Ukraine, - not the gift, and a long-awaited step to performance of the Russian Federation of the financial obligations which were forgotten for 20 years" - are declared by the chairman of the Nikolaev regional organization of the Ukrainian People's Party, the first deputy chairman of the Gospotrebnadzor of Ukraine Yury Shirko, making comments on the corresponding message of the chairman of the Russian state corporation "Rosatom" Sergey Kiriyenk. Yu. Shirko emphasized that for 20 years Ukraine spent for elimination of consequences of accident on the Chernobyl Nuclear Power Station nearly $15 billion and hoped that "in these $17 million Moscow will begin really, instead of in words, to take part in elimination of consequences of Chernobyl accident, according to arrangements" as in 1994 Moscow assumed the obligation to finance Chernobyl programs in response to refusal of Ukraine of the nuclear weapon and in 1995 as the member of "Group of Eight" together with other countries of Russia signed the memorandum according to which undertook to provide to Ukraine more than $1 billion the bezoplatny help on the solution of problems with closing of station and in addition to finance completion of two power units on Hmelnitskaya and the Rovno nuclear power plant.

According to Yury Shirko allocation by Russia of funds for the program of construction of a new safe konfayment, installation on processing of liquid radioactive waste and constructions of dry storage of spent fuel would be expedient. "This project worth $1 billion 900 million.has to be are finished till 2010, and now the International Chernobyl fund "Ukrytiye" which includes 28 countries and which the European bank of reconstruction and development directs, I collected only $1 billion. The sum of $900 million at least partially would compensate 20 - summer passivity of Moscow in a problem of elimination of consequences of Chernobyl accident" - the chairman of the Nikolaev OO UNP notes.
