The world prices for aluminum fell to level of 2002, having decreased by 2,5 times in relation to 2008, and reached "bottom", the director general of JSC Zaporozhye Aluminium Production Combine (ZALK) Alexander Kotyuk considers.
"Now our task - to return to prime cost which was in 2002-2003", - he told on board of the Zaporozhye regional state administration on Friday.
According to Kotyuk, in connection with falling of the prices the decision to stop aluminous production at the enterprise was made.
"Even if the market will be restored to level of 50-60% of last year, at present gas prices will be unprofitably engaged in production of own alumina. We will get alumina at the Nikolaev aluminous plant", - ZALKA told the general director.
Besides, he noted, due to the lack of demand in December of last year the silicon production which main consumers are producers of alloys and automotive industry was completely stopped.
The compelled preservation of two objects which are on balance of the enterprise - ZALK Palace of culture and a factory dispensary on the island Hortitsa became result of financial losses ZALKA.
ZALK - the only producer in Ukraine of primary aluminum. Its capacities allow to let out annually about 100 thousand tons of primary aluminum. In 2004 the Russian group SUAL became the owner ZALKA, and in 2007 of ZALK passed under control "RUSAL", created in March, 2007 by merge of "RUSAL", SUAL and aluminous assets of the Swiss trader of Glencore.
As it was reported with reference to Bloomberg agency, aluminum at the auction in London rose in price on January 28 for 10 dollars - to 1350 dollars for ton.
