As reported in Ministry of Fuel and Energy, gas stocks in storages as of May 1, 2009 more than twice (on 8,641 billion cubic meters) exceeded a similar indicator for May 1, 2006.

Gas volumes in UGS at the beginning of a month exceeded last year's even in spite of the fact that its selection in January - April made 11,428 billion cubic meters that is 21,4% more, than in January - April, 2008.

Proceeding from the volumes of the natural gas which have remained in storages after end of a heating season, in the current year for the maximum filling of UGS within preparation to new the oseena - to a winter maximum of consumption to Ukraine needs to begin to rock no more than 16 billion cubic meters, and for accumulation of last year's volumes - less than 13,8 billion cubic meters

The Russian official warned the European colleagues that "if it won't be made, the tragedy which we endured in January, will gain catastrophic development".

"It will be connected with that in January in the Ukrainian system there were the necessary reserves downloaded in PGH, allowing partially to replace the undersupplied volumes, and now these volumes aren't present in accordance with the circumstances, happened in January", - he explained.

Ukraine has 13 UGS with a general active volume more than 31 billion cubic meters of 12 storages and the system of the main gas pipelines is operated by "Ukrtransgaz", NAK Naftogaz Ukrainy subsidiary, one more storage - GAO "Chernomornaftogaz", 100 which % of actions belong to NAK.
