The president Victor Yushchenko rejected the new law on presidential elections by which the term of an electoral race was reduced by one month. To overcome the presidential veto, deputies and will gather this Friday.
Tomorrow expires the 15-dnevny term during which the president has to sign or reject changes in the law on presidential elections. Officially the verdict of the president concerning the law as of yesterday evening isn't published. However, according to sources of the newspaper "Business", Victor Yushchenko already vetoed. Moreover, in fraction of Party of Regions claim that the head of state made it last week, and the Secretariat specially delays the publication of this decision.
To supporters of changes of rules of election campaign, Party of Regions and BYuT, it is important to overcome the veto of the head of state till September 19 - official start of presidential race (according to old edition of the law on elections). Otherwise innovations can be challenged in vessels.
We will remind, in July the parliament 316 voices (mainly from Party of Regions and BYuT) accepted new edition of the law on presidential elections. Changes concerned terms of carrying out an electoral race - it was reduced from 120 to 90 days (thereby People's Deputies postponed start of elections since September 19 to October 19). Besides, the Verkhovna Rada significantly increased pledge for candidates for president: from 500 thousand UAH to 2,5 million UAH Krom of reduction of term of election campaign and increase in the sum of pledge for candidates for president, the bill suggested to liquidate institute of absentee ballots and subscription lists in support of the presidential candidate, and also some other changes.
