The vessel stolen by the Somali pirates, left port in the Nikolaev area

On the vessel Faina stolen yesterday by the Somali pirates there were 33 tanks T of-72 two modifications, a significant amount of ammunition, and also other types of arms, including grenade launchers. It was declared today by the Minister of Defence Yury Ekhanurov, the correspondent of RBC - Ukraine reports.

The minister specified that the owner of freight is the Ukrinmash company entering into structure of "Ukrspetseksport". The vessel performed flight under the flag of Belize on a route Oktyabrsk (The Nikolaev Region) - Mombasa (Kenya). At the same time Yu.Ekhanurov emphasized that export of the Ukrainian arms to Kenya was carried out according to the legislation.

In turn the president of Ukraine Victor Yushchenko for the purpose of protection of the rights and interests of the Ukrainian citizens charged to the competent ministries and departments urgently to take all necessary measures for release of crew of the taken vessel.

As it was reported, the vessel Faina was taken yesterday around 16:00 - at this time the captain of a vessel contacted representatives of the company and reported that three boats moored to a board with the armed people then communication with it broke.

The crew of a vessel consists of 21 persons, from which 17 - citizens of Ukraine (the captain - the citizen of Ukraine), 3 - citizens of the Russian Federation, 1 - the citizen of Latvia.

We will note that the Ukrainian seamen the last time appeared in captivity at the Somali pirates only four months ago. As it was reported, on May 28 of this year pirates captured the German Lehmann Timber bulk carrier as a part of which crew there were four Ukrainian seamen. The bulk carrier was it is released after the company - the shipowner paid for it repayment of 750 thousand dollars
