The party of the tanks loaded in the Nikolaev port of the vessel "Faina" aboard taken by the Somali pirates, is intended for Sudan, the representative of the Fifth fleet of Naval Forces of the USA Nathan Christensen declared.
According to him, the USA have data that the arms onboard the ship were intended for Sudan. And in connection with an unstable situation arms supplies to this country are affected by embargo. Thus Christensen didn't specify who exactly was the buyer of the weapon: Sudanese army or one of oppositional groups. The "Sudanese" trace of freight was confirmed also by Somali pirates.
In return the Minister of Defence of Ukraine Ekhanurov declared that tanks, the weapon and ammunition intended for Kenya. According to him, sale of the Ukrainian weapon to Africa was made on the lawful bases.
At the same time with it chapter of the program of assistance to seamen in Kenya Andrew Mwangura claims that for last year through Kenya to the south Sudan passed at least three parties of the weapon.
Experts in arms doubt that Kenya could get tanks of the Soviet sample: still arms delivered to the country the USA, Great Britain and China, and tanks of the British production at the moment are adopted by Kenyan army, reports PrimeNews.com.ua.
The vessel "Faina" was captured by pirates in neutral waters about the coast of Kenya. Freight of the ship consists of 33 tanks T-72, an ammunition and spare parts for them.
Onboard the ship I was
21 persons: 17 Ukrainians, among them the Nikolaev seaman Nikolay Sarancha, and also three Russians and the Latvian. On September 28 "Faina's" captain Kolobkov died as it is reported, from hypertensive crisis. Pirates already managed to arrange among themselves firefight.
Officials assure that "Faina" in the Nikolaev October port was loaded. According to the Minister of Defence, owners of freight are "Ukrspetseksport" and Ukrinmash firm.
