The body of the United Nations General Assembly - General committee on October 23 of this year after sharp debate postponed adoption of the recommendation about inclusion in the agenda of present session of the United Nations General Assembly of a question of the Holodomor of 1932-1933 in Ukraine, reports a press - service Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine.
The Russian Federation, using a leverage of the permanent member of the UN Security Council, by the frank pressure and blackmail tries to deprive the power - the member of the UN of the right to raise an important question for it on the UN agenda - the most representative world organization. Such actions contradict a letter and spirit of the Charter of the UN, and also rules of procedure of General Assembly, note in department.
According to information the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine, not constructive position of the Russian Federation goes contrary to approaches of the world community in estimates of the nature of the Holodomor. It is displayed in unanimously accepted on October 23, 2008. The European parliament of the Resolution on celebration of the tragedy of the Holodomor of 1932-1933 in Ukraine. This Resolution the Holodomor is recognized "as an awful crime against the Ukrainian people" and "crime against humanity". In the document of European Parliament the regret is also expressed to the Ukrainian people which suffered from the Holodomor of 1932-1933 in Ukraine.
At the same time department reports that work on question inclusion concerning the Holodomor of 1932-1933 in Ukraine in the agenda of the United Nations General Assembly is continued.
We will remind that the Ukrainian party intended to achieve earlier consideration of a question of the Holodomor of 1932-1933 in the UN at the end of September. However, on September 22 in the spirit of a compromise, I decided not to insist on vote of the relevant draft resolution of Council. At the same time the President of Ukraine Victor Yushchenko expressed belief that the UN resolution concerning recognition of the Holodomor will be adopted.
In 1932-33 of hunger died, by various estimates, from 2,5 to 10 million Ukrainians as they were deprived of products of the work as a result of the violent collectivization which was carried out in agriculture.
