The president of Ukraine Victor Yushchenko suspended established by the Cabinet till July a quota of export of sunflower oil of 0,3 million tons.
The relevant decree of the head of state of May 26, 2008 comes into effect from the date of publication.
Yushchenko's decree I suspended the resolution of Cabinet of Ministers No. 189 of March 12 About the statement of volumes of quotas of sunflower oil and the sunflower seeds which export is subject to licensing till July 1, 2008, and an order of issue of licenses, and also an order of issue of licenses for export of sunflower oil and seeds of a sunflower and distribution of quotas to which the government resolution No. 229 of March 19 made corresponding changes.
According to the President, the decision of the government on establishment of quoting is made without a market situation in Ukraine as, according to balance of supply and demand of sunflower oil, now in domestic market there is its surplus.
According to the Ministry of an agrarian policy, the sunflower crop in 2007 made 4,4 million tons.
As it was reported, Ukraine I entered quoting of export sunflower oil and sunflower seeds of respectively 300 thousand tons and 1 thousand tons for a period of up to July 1, 2008 since March 22.
On May 21 Cabinet of Ministers I postponed question consideration about cancellation of quotas of sunflower oil.
On May 23 it became known that European Commission won't forbid import of sunflower oil from Ukraine, but I intend to strengthen control of quality of production.
