Telephone conversation of the President of Ukraine Victor Yushchenko with the President of the Russian Federation Dmitry Medvedev took place.
About it reports a press - service of the President of Ukraine.
During conversation Victor Yushchenko expressed extreme concern about a situation which developed with transit of the Russian natural gas through the territory of Ukraine to the European consumers as a result of the full termination by the Russian side of supply of gas to Ukraine for export to the European countries.
V. Yushchenko emphasized that the Ukrainian party for the purpose of ensuring transit of gas to Europe carried out all necessary measures for situation normalization. The Ukrainian gas from underground storages was thus used. The head of the Ukrainian state urged the Russian side to update immediately supply of gas for the European consumers and assured that Ukraine is ready to make all necessary for ensuring transit of gas in the provided volumes. Ukraine confirms with such offers the good will concerning ensuring transit even before achievement of arrangements with the Russian side concerning supply of gas.
The head of the Ukrainian state noted that since January 1, 2009 Ukraine consumes only gas of own production and gas which is in the Ukrainian storages and NAK "Neftegaz of Ukraine" is completely paid.
Victor Yushchenko suggested Dmitry Medvedev to create the relevant commission with involvement of representatives of two parties, and also the third party - the European consumers which would analyse the reasons which have caused a crisis situation, and made recommendations of rather immediate return to a normal operating mode.
The president of Ukraine paid attention that all calculations for the gas consumed in 2008 and therefore obligations of Ukraine for calculations for the consumed gas in 2008 are completely executed were carried out on December 30.
Victor Yushchenko urged the Russian side to return to constructive negotiation process and confirmed readiness of the Ukrainian party to conduct open and transparent negotiations with the assistance of representatives of the European Union.
The head of the Ukrainian state noted that the position of the Ukrainian power is that the agreements reached by Presidents of both countries on February 12, 2008, and the mutual obligations recorded in the Memorandum between the Government of the Russian Federation and the Cabinet of Ukraine about cooperation in the gas sphere from October 2, 2008 by which the principles and a procedure of payments between two states in the gas sphere are determined have to become base for negotiations.
