In the center of Kiev on Monday there was a fight between the supporters of Communist Party picketing the Secretariat of the president with a protest against the entry of Ukraine in NATO, and law enforcement officers.
Participants of picket which takes place on Lyuteranskaya Street adjacent to the secretariat, tried to break through a cordon of militia and metal obstacles which block the street. Police officers didn't let them. Five-minute fight resulted.
Protesters didn't manage to break on Bank where the secretariat is located. During fight participants of picket demanded from militiamen to pass them to the Secretariat building. Victims aren't present.
After that on Lyuteranskaya Street police squads were quickly strengthened, and across the street put the bus.
Since morning about 500 supporters of Communist party of Ukraine picket the Secretariat of the president, protesting against accession of Ukraine to the Plan of action on finding of membership in NATO and the further entry of the country into alliance.
Participants of picket couldn't approach closely to Bankovskaya Street on which the Secretariat is located. They stand in the middle of Lyuteranskaya Street in half a kilometer from the Khreshchatyk and in 300 meters from its crossing with Bank. Picketing hold flags of KPU and posters in English and Ukrainian languages with inscriptions "The Yankee - from the territory of Ukraine".
Lyuteranskaya Street is blocked by police officers.
At the same time, on other end of this street there is a picket of supporters of "our Ukraine" in support of policy of the euroatlantic integration of Ukraine. About 100 people take part in it. They hold national flags of Ukraine and flags of "our Ukraine".
We will remind, on Monday to Ukraine on a visit there arrives delegation of North Atlantic council headed by the NATO Secretary General Jaap de Hoop Scheffer. Its meetings with the president, the speaker and the prime minister of Ukraine are planned. For the purpose of safety during visit the central streets of Kiev are blocked.
