The next presidential elections under the Constitution have to be appointed to January 17, 2010.
It was declared by the deputy head of the secretariat of president Igor Pukshin, reports a press - service of the president.
He noted that according to article 104 of the Constitution the newly elected president enters the powers from the moment of oath addition to the people at ceremonial meeting of the Verkhovna Rada.
Pukshin reminded that the incumbent president Victor Yushchenko took the oath at ceremonial meeting of the Verkhovna Rada on January 23, 2005 and entered a position from this day.
"Considering that the president Victor Yushchenko entered a position on January 23, 2005, on standard in the legislation of Ukraine to an order, calculation of terms of the fifth year of its powers expires on January 22, 2010", - he noted.
"Respectively, the next presidential elections under the Constitution have to be appointed to January 17, 2010 and be carried out this day", - Pukshin added.
Thus he emphasized that according to the Constitution, purpose of presidential elections belongs to powers of the Verkhovna Rada, and it appoints these elections in the terms provided by the Constitution.
