Ukraine will join the European operation on fight against a piracy

Ukraine plans to join the European operation on fight against a piracy in the region of Somalia and Congo.

As the correspondent of the UNIAN reports, the President of Ukraine Victor YUSHCHENKO reported about it during a meeting with relatives of crew "Faina" at the Borispol airport.

He emphasized that Ukraine made the decision to join the international initiative, and negotiations on participation of our state in operation within EU on fight against aggressors and terrorists in this region are now conducted.

For this purpose, according to the President, Ukraine has to pay some million dollars for the maintenance of our ships in this region.

According to him, these ships have to accompany the civil vessels going under the Ukrainian flag, or, probably, consist of the Ukrainian crew.

"I think that we will find these resources", - the President told.

As reported the UNIAN, on December 8 last year in the Adensky passage sea operation of EU against pirates at coast of Somalia began.

On November 17 in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs declared that Ukraine conducts active negotiations with the European Union on its attraction to operations on fight against a piracy in Gulf of Aden.

On December 1 the Minister of Defence Yury EKHANUROV declared that in the General Staff of VSU the plan of measures on participation of Armed forces of Ukraine in operation on counteraction to the international piracy is fulfilled.
