In the Nikolaev area opened the museum of our fellow countryman Semyon Boychenko – the first world record-holder on swimming

Last Thursday, April 30, in Maryevk's village of the Bashtansky areaNikolaev areathe ceremonial opening of the museum created on honor of the native of the villagetook placeS. Boychenka- the first world record-holder on swimming.

Repair work of the building in which it was decided to place the museum, began in 2008. As reports a press - service of the Nikolaev regional state administration, for repair and registration of rooms it was spent nearly 119 thousand hryvnias.

Semyon Petrovich Boychenko, been born on April 28, 1912 in the Bashtansky region of the Nikolaev area, - the repeated champion of Moscow, the USSR, Europe, the world. From 1935 to 1948 it set 111 records. For recognition of his skill abroad Semyon Petrovich spent 6 years in GULAG, and was rehabilitated only in 1956.

Experts called Semyon Boychenko "the king of butterfly stroke", considering that it the best in this type of swimming.

In Nikolaev already there was traditional a tournament on the swimming, Semyona Boychenko devoted to memory.
