The Nikolaev mass media actively help to fight against corruption, signaling about it to bodies of the Ministry of Internal Affairs

Today, on December 3, meeting Nikolaev a press - club of reforms on a subject "Law Enforcement Agencies and Mass Media — Equivalent Partners in Fight Against Corruption" and rewarding of winners of a regional stage of the Second National competition on the best journalistic material and author's article on corruption counteraction took place. The head of the Ukrainian educational center of reforms Irina Movchan, the acting head of department of fight against corruption took part in action the Organized Crime Control Department Roman Kachan, the representative of TsOS Regional Department of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Ukraine in the Nikolaev area Andrey Golovko, representatives of human rights organizations, editors of local mass media, journalists.

The role of mass media in fight against corruption and the help of journalists to bodies of the Ministry of Internal Affairs in identification and suppression of corruption activity became the main subject for discussion at meeting.

Roman Kachan, the acting head of department of fight against corruption the Organized Crime Control Department, informed gathered that since the beginning of year 99 protocols on violation of the anti-corruption legislation were made, 60 offenders were made responsible. He noted that generally the facts of corruption are elicited in such spheres as activity of village and city councils, the district state administrations, supervisory authorities, military service, etc.

However, Roman Yuryevich emphasized, it isn't always expedient to provide all available information of mass media, especially when it concerns the facts which are in development. Uses of similar information often leads to a lawful appeal to the court of the citizens involved in the checked facts, with statements that their business reputation suffered.

On a question of journalists of, whether proceedings were initiated and whether the corruption facts signals about which arrived from mass media were developed, Yury Kachan answered positively.According to him, similar precedents were, however he can't call them as practically all of them are in development.
