The National Bank wants to forbid part of banks to trade in currency

The National Bank of Ukraine (NBU) intends to forbid banks with the regulatory capital less than 10 million euros to trade in foreign currency.

This norm contains in the project of changes published on July 8 in "The provision on an order of delivery to banks of bank licenses, written permissions and licenses for performance of separate operations".

According to the project of changes, banks for implementation of foreign exchange operations in cash desks, points of an exchange and agency networks, except the bank license, have to have and the written permission of NBU which is the general license for carrying out currency transactions.

Thus for obtaining such permission the bank has to have a written permission for opening of correspondent accounts in authorized banks of Ukraine in foreign currency and implementation of operations on them. Besides, the size of the regulatory capital of bank has to be not less than 10 million euros.
