The president Victor Yushchenko submitted the bill "About the Number of Armed Forces of Ukraine for 2009-2011" for consideration of the Verkhovna Rada.
The bill is published on the website of the Verkhovna Rada, reports UNIAN.
By the bill it is provided in 2009 the number of Armed forces to leave within the actual number of 2008 (to 200 thousand persons, including to 150 thousand military personnel).
For 2010 the head of state suggests to carry out accumulation of fighting potential of Armed forces and to bring VSU number to 212 thousand people, including to 162 thousand military personnel.
Till December 31, 2011 it is provided the number of VSU to leave in borders of the actual number of 2010.
At the same time the chairman of parliamentary committee on national safety Anatoly Gritsenko doesn't support the proposal of the president concerning increase in number of Armed forces.
"The increase in number of armed forces offered by the president against lack of sharp military threat and against the extremely adverse economic situation which doesn't allow to support at appropriate level even armed forces of present number to provide combat training is meanwhile not the convincing offer", - he declared.
Gritsenko suggests to keep the existing number of Armed forces for 2009.
Besides, he suggests to approve in parliament the basic project of development of army only for 2009, instead of for some years as Victor Yushchenko wants. As the issue of further development of army will be already resolved by other president.
"It will be logical that the newly elected president as the Supreme Commander offered the vision of development of armed forces, I offered the parameters of number and the main thing - I offered that resource base which would allow army to develop. As it is very easy to accept number big, than now it is, but thus means won't appear", - Gritsenko emphasized.
