More than a half of respondents (52 percent), answering a question of the possible conflict of Russia with Ukraine from - for the Crimea, declared that it most likely will be diplomatic. 13 percent of respondents are sure that no conflicts connected with ownership of the Crimea, between Ukraine and the Russian Federation can be.
44 percent of respondents declared that the question of ownership of the Crimea needs to be discussed. The majority of the Russians who have given such answer, were in the Crimea after disorder of the USSR; are less inclined to expect a showdown with Kiev concerning the autonomous republic those who visited to the Crimea in Soviet period (22 percent of respondents).

After war in South Ossetia following the results of which Kiev took the part of official Tbilisi and condemned actions of Moscow, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine suspected Russia of preparation of "invasion" into the Crimea. In September, 2008 the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine Vladimir Ogryzko declared that the Russian consulate in the capital of the Crimea Simferopol distributes passports of the Russian Federation to citizens of Ukraine. Ogryzko expressed fears that Russia will intrude in the Crimea under the pretext of protection of interests of the citizens.
