2009 is declared by UNESCO year of astronomy, and the Nikolaev astronomical observatory already prepares for this event.
Carrying out the international astronomical conference at which the memorial plate will be open for the first director of the Nikolaev observatory Karl Knorre is planned, Open Days will be held to observatories.
Now in observatory on Mondays and Wednesdays lectures for pupils and adult population on which it is possible to get acquainted with observatory history, by its current state are given from 14.00 till 17.00, to examine a scientific platform, to learn information on news in astronomy.
Excursion cost for group to 10 people makes 60 UAH at an o'clock, for group to 20 people - 75 UAH in hour
Unfortunately, now it is impossible to look in a telescope at the Moon and stars as the available scientific equipment of observatory is expensive and it isn't adapted for use for carrying out excursions. Probably, in the near future there will be a sponsor who will help the Nikolaev observatory to get a special small excursion telescope for sky display to the fellow countrymen and city visitors.
Now in observatory are available 3 modern professional telescopes of an original design: axial meridialny circle, multichannel telescope, high-speed automatic complex for the solution of problems of near-earth astronomy and studying of small bodies of Solar system.
Being the oldest astronomical observatory in Ukraine (it is founded in 1821), since March, 2007 the Nikolaev astronomical observatory is object of the world heritage of UNESCO.
